Minneapolis Instutite of Art Family day
Aug. 21st, 2013 10:41 amEvery 2nd Sunday of the month, MIA has a family day with various activities for the kids. Every month they have a different theme. I took kids to the three previous days and can't wait to go there in September. What a wonderful place to spend time with kids, find interesting art pieces, make art and hangout together.
In August, the theme of the day was insects and outdoors. Kids made bugs out of clay, they made origami bug with real neon light and we were doing a scavenger hunt all over the museum. After finding all paintings, kids got plastic toy bugs of their choice.
One of the pictures that we had to find was this one:

Feb. 6th, 2012 02:26 pmI don’t care about football and most of the sports but my husband and now my son are into it. So, either I like it or not if there is a Super Bowl, the TV is on and some years even with a lot of company in our house. I don’t usually watch it and not even interested in the so expected star commercials. Last night wasn’t any different. The only part that I watched was Madonna’s half time show. My husband insisted that I watch it.
Mishka asked us who is Madonna?
He got to see who she is. Then he said that she was singing one song wrong because he saw it on YouTube how it is done correctly by some guys. :) We had a long argument that Madonna was the first one to sing that song and whoever is doing it on YouTube is only making out their own adaptation.
She looked like she was still in her 20th only moving a lot slower. She is over 50 now and it made me think, why celebrities don’t want to grow up and develop more grown up art that takes them further ahead instead of making them stuck in the old-young?
I wished to hear a new song, see something new and unique, at least one piece out of several. The show was great, spectacular-spectacular with old Madonna and her old songs where she wanted to look young. I don't know, but there is something that bothers me about our culture of wanting to be frozen in one period of our lives and not being able to embrace all ages as they come. Yes, we do grow and get old and even die, why fight this concept? Who are we fooling?

On Saturday night I took Michelle to a concert by Okee Dokee brothers at children’s bookstore The Wild Rumpus. I have never been there before and it is actually pretty far away from our house but I was planning to meet with a friend and her little son there, so I took Michelle while my husband took Mishka to hockey practice. We came late for the concert but still had a lot of fun. There were a lot of kids with their parents. Singers were adorable and fun. The bookstore has a lot of animals in the cages like parrots, chickens, chinchillas, rats and a cat. Of course, there are plenty of books and games and toys. It is a small but very cute store with a character. In the crowd we found our friends and hangout at the bookstore after the concert was over.

Happy Mother's Day weekend!
May. 8th, 2011 11:50 pmThis morning, Michelle and I ended up at the Minneapolis Sculpture Garden again while Mishka was at the synagogue. This time it was a lot warmer and the flower garden was bright and beautiful with different color tulips, Narcissus, snowdrops and other flowers that I don’t know the names of. I did not know the snowdrops too but they have signs in the garden that tell people what kind of plant it is.
After we picked up Mishka from his school we went to the ChuckeChees's for Mishka's and Michelka's cousin's birthday. Kids had a lot of fun there. I got totally wiped out. It was nice to take a nap when we got home. We were planning to visit our moms today but ended up visiting only Boris' parents. What a beautiful weekend!!!

Unplanned weekend activities
Feb. 6th, 2011 11:38 pmI had an interesting weekend even though had only one plan for Saturday night -- girls’ night out/birthday party of my friend and one plan for Sunday -- Super bowl party. We started on Friday with totally unplanned dinner party for both of our parents plus my parents’ best friends. After dinner (late dinner) and desert and some crosswords, we watched movie The tourist. I enjoyed it. It was light action, love story with beautiful actors in beautiful Venice.
On Saturday, I was hoping just to get some rest and go out in the evening. So, I slept until 11am while Boris with Michelle took Mishka to the soccer. I think I would have slept more but as usually kids woke me up. Then Alina called and invited us to the Fire & Ice Festival on the Parker’s lake. I couldn’t figure out what to do about that festival. I wanted Mishka to go but I hate being cold and I didn’t want Michelle to go because that would be just a painful experience dragging her on the ice for a few hours in cold. So, we figured out the best way out. There was a problem with parking, so Boris with Michelle dropped us off at the Parkers lake and went shopping while Mishka and I enjoyed ice skating and the junk food, and all of the other events at the festival. They had horse hay rides, recycle bin contest, crazy hat contest, dog Frisbee, dogrides, hockey, smorese, open fire to warm up and the whole lake of ice.
The longer we stayed, the more people were coming and more events were happening. It was however very cold and windy. Mishka and I put our skates on and quickly checked everything out, found our friends and continued skating. Here is one video that I made when we just came.

Whole family Ice Skating
Jan. 10th, 2011 11:56 pmOn Saturday, Michael asked me if we can go ice skating. He got into the groove of skating after going to the ice center in CA. I checked our community center’s website and learned that they have open ice and the theme of the day was Sun day. That meant that if you dress in yellow, you get 50% off. It sounded even better. So, our whole family went to our community center ice skating. Including 2 year old Michelle. I was curious if they would have her size skates. We found pretty close to her size she is 6 now but ice skates were 8.
