It is almost 1am and something just keeps me up. I don’t want to let go and sleep. Well, I am sleepy but don’t want to lie down and close my eyes.
My friend gave me two audio books to listen to. One of them is by Dale Carnegie How to Stop Worrying and Start Living. I was not very interested in that particular book but just out of nothing else to listen in the car I put it on. I had to keep in mind that Carnegie wrote this book in 1940s. He wrote it as a journalist who interviewed or read about big managers or business men about their worries and made common sense conclusions.
Before I listened to it, I was curious why his name never came up in my counseling classes and listening to the style of writing or story telling I figured that his methods were not “research” based but more anecdotal. However, some of his suggestions are more straight forward then some of the therapists and psychologists of last century. Here is more information about the book and its conclusions! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/How_to_Stop_Worrying_and_Start_Living
I thought it was a very cute book. Apparently, he was a pioneer in covering the topic of worries using practical examples from real life and real people. The main conclusion was that worries can kill you! Stop worrying can save your life!
