MAEOPP conference in Indianapolis
Nov. 10th, 2010 11:21 pmJust came back today from a conference of Mid American Association of Educational Opportunity Professionals and Personnel in Indiana. It was an overwhelming experience with very little time to ourselves. My presentation was Motivating clients/students pursue higher education and other life goals using existential approach. The title of this session was "To be a tree or not to be?"
It was again scheduled for the last day and the last time. All of the time I was worried about this presentation and was constantly rehearsing it when I had time in my hotel room. My biggest fear was that I wouldn't be able to articulate in words what I want to say. Sometimes words just leave my mind or I would have a word but only in Russian. I had to call Boris a few times asking him how to say something in English.
I was well prepared and I was calm during my presentation. I made audience participate and we had a great conversation. I presented together with my co-worker. We both are chicken to present individually, so we teamed up. We took turns to present our stuff. I was covering the philosophy and how I apply it in the everyday life and she was presenting coaching techniques that would help clients/students make important steps towards their goals and see that they are not powerless and not victims of their lives. It worked out well. We got good reviews. Some people at the conference remembered me from my first presentation in Wisconsin in the Spring.
I spent a lot of time with my co-worker that I presented with and really enjoyed her company.
