Since Thursday night I was attending Clinical Hypnotherapy training that was offered trough U of MN Medical School Continuing Education presented by American Society of Clinical Hypnosis. I was very excited about the training and anxious.
It went very well and made me more confident in myself. It was pretty intimidating the first day because there were so many doctors, psychiatrists, psychologists, clinical social workers, nurses, etc. I was in between mental health and human services, with a goal to take off in the mental health counseling direction some day.
Once I got to know more people and started to interact, I found myself to be pretty valuable group member and felt very good interacting with people who have years of experience in medical field or psychology. I even started to consider PsyD degreee.
I learned a lot about hypnosis and was very anxious about practical exercises. We spent a lot of time talking about misconceptions related to stage hypnosis where people are ridiculed. Clinical hypnosis is to help people access their inner power to be more in control of their lives not the opposite.
Most of the faculty of this training were experts with many years of practice who are practicing in Twin Cities. So, now I have a good list of referrals if anyone needs a real expert who really really know what they are doing.
To my surprise, I did great! I learned to induce trance in 4 different ways, deepen, and re-alert. I was very self conscious about my accent and 2nd language issue but my words just were coming out flawlessly. I got to hypnotize 4 different people 5 times. This practice really made me feel competent in practicing it more. We were offered some scripts but we just improvised.
I would need to read more literature about specific issue to resolve but for now I can put anyone who wants to in a trance for relaxation purposes, ego strengthening and probably even to work on some anxieties.
The training was 21 hours long in 3 days. It was pretty stressful for me because Michelle was sick all of this time. Her teeth are coming out and she has been having a fever since Thursday. I think I would need to take her to the doctor tomorrow. Also, I didn't get enough sleep any of the nights of the training.
Today I cooked dinner and spent most of the day with sick Michelle. In the evening I went to the Harmony Theatre for end of the year show and board meeting. I watched kids perform and decided that it would be great influence on Michael. So, I signed him up for 3 week camp. I will see if he likes it, he could continue to the 2nd and 3rd sessions throughout the summer.
