I have 2 spinning chairs for my clients in the office and today, I realized that I should avoid getting spinning chairs for the clients.  Well, in many years, this was the first time that having a spinning chair for a client bothered me.

Throughout the whole hour of our appointment, this client was energetically moving in the chair: left and right, left and right, left and right, left and right, etc…  it bothered me but I did not want to say anything about it because I did not want to sound like a mother and ruining our newly developing relationship (I would say to my kids to nuck it off, or stop doing something like this but not to an adult that I try to make a working counseling relationship).

Also, I know that people tend to do this when they are nervous or if they suffer from ADD.  The client was very young, just graduated from high school and it could be just being out of control or even unaware that was doing it.  By the end of the session, client slowed down but my head was spinning more and more.

I should have asked if client was nervous or something.  I need to think this one through, so next time I would know what to do.
