Jawaahir's Annual Gala Fundraiser

Last night, after work I went to a fundraiser for Jawaahir Dance Company that was held at the Women’s Club of Minneapolis.  As a former Jawaahir dancer, I was asked to come, help and participate.  It is always fun to see dedicated Jawaahir members, Cassandra and new dancers.  Of course, there were a lot of guests too.

I am not fond of being in big crowds of unknown people but pushing myself to do that more often.  I was driven to talk to people that I know and tried to communicate with the unknown guests too.

Everyone was dressed up and looked great!  There were interesting auction items.  I even bid on some of them.  I left earlier because I had to get home before 8pm, so I don’t know if I won anything.  Most likely not.

One of the items that I bid on was a book about belly dance by some dancer.  When I looked at the content of the book, I raised a question, how come Cassandra has not written a book yet?  She is so knowledgeable and has so much to share with everyone.  She is not only great dancer, choreographer, artist but also knows a lot about Middle Eastern culture=anthropologist.

Well, she offers classes on many different topics in addition to dance classes.  If she could put as much of her knowledge in the book, it would be a jewel of a book!  I am sure that many of her students would love to own one, especially with her signature.  It could be a book with electronic/digital pages that would include some video clips.  I have not seen a book with electronic pages yet but it sounds like a great idea to me, especially when one is talking about dance.

I asked Cassandra why she hasn’t written a book yet.  She looked at me and asked me when can she do it and how other artists do it? Where do they find time? That is true, she is very busy and always on the go.  Well, I am sure that many artists hire someone to write a book for them.  I am sure that Paris Hilton did not write that book that she published herself.

Also, someone truly needs to write a book about Cassandra!  She is fascinating artist and individual that is well known in the Middle Eastern dancing community all over the world.

I should find time to start taking dance classes again and maybe even learn to teach.  I am much more confident in myself then I used to be.
