Our winter is in full force, snow is on the ground, temperatures range from 18F (-7C) and lower.  The day light is very limited.  Sometimes we have sunny days and some days are just dark and cold.  Mostly, I spend time at work in the office and by the time I get home it is dark like in the middle of the night.

Kids of course need to be active.  I don’t like when they stay home and especially don’t like when they have time to watch TV.  So, I have been exploring various options of entertainment.  I think I am doing it every year and every winter like for the first time.  I guess because kids grow and something from last year is not a good idea this year.

So, far I have taken kids to our local community center where they have indoor playground with a lot of fun slides and mazes.  Mishka attends hockey practice, so he gets to have fun on ice.  Our community center has an ice arena and swimming pool.  I am too lazy to take kids swimming when it is so cold outside.  It is warm in the pool but it takes a lot of effort dry them off and dress them up to get outside.  So, I don’t bring up this option into the entertainment list.

We should go for an open ice skating one of these days.  I got skates for myself, Michael and Michelle.

This Wednesday, I took kids to our local pet-shop to look at the animals.  Kids really liked it and I had hard time getting them out of there.  I was glad they didn’t have puppies for sale because they would want to buy one.  Well, before we went there, I told them that we are not going to buy ANYTHING!!!

Pet shop was a new venue for us and it turned out to be a good idea.  At this particular store they had cats, parrots, and different types of fish, turtles, ferrets, mice, guinea pigs, and other reptiles.  Also, they groom dogs and train pets.  So, Michelle had fun watching dogs to be groomed and playing with puppies that came for the training.

I don’t like to be cold, so all of the winter sports outside I would leave to my husband.  He took Mishka last winters skiing and sledding.  I would rather specialize in indoor warm activities.

Ok, on my list of winter entertainment for kids this year is:
  • Maple Maze (indoor playground)
  • Ice skating,
  • Swimming Pool
  • Library,
  • Pet Shop
  • Kid’s bookstores like www.wildrumpusbooks.com/
  • Visit friends and grandparents :)
  • Children's museum
  • Skyzone
  • Mall of America (kind of far from us)
  • shopping
Any other ideas that I don’t know about?
