I have realized that to enjoy cooking one must have all the right tools first and then understand the ingredients (there are still a lot that I have no clue what that is -- internet is helping with that).

I used to hate cooking and my kitchen had very few pots and one fryer.  Then I bought set of glass containers different sizes that I can use in the oven and I started baking things, then we bought set of pots and fryers and we started cooking more.  My mom gave me mixer even though I told her that I don't really need it since I don't cook but it turned out to be very handy when I make cabbage pie and other new things.  Then my blander died and after a long while I bought Ninja.  I love it and use it instead of manual shredder (тёрка)!!! very quick and no pain in my wrists.

I have been making various versions of gazpacho with my Ninja ever since I tried to make it for the first time.  Thanks to [livejournal.com profile] _milashka  for introducing me to this yummy yummy dish.

Now, I think I need dough roller and maybe even a food processor.

Yesterday, I baked an apple pie, I didn’t have dough to cover the pie but it turned out yummy and cute with just apples inside the crust.  My mother-in-law liked it and she also told me that I could have just mixed everything up – apples with dough from scratch (eggs, flour, apples, sugar, etc…) and baked it.  Some day I will try that too.

Anyway, I am much better cook then I was a year ago and my repertoire is getting wider.  There is a lot more to do and try and learn.  [livejournal.com profile] foodclub_ru has been super helpful too!!!

Jewish High holidays are getting to the end this week.  This year we celebrated the holidays in the real Orthodox community and I would say it was the most ritualistic holiday season for our family ever.  However, I can’t say that it was the most spiritual time for me.  I don’t know why, but unlike other years I had more spiritual feelings and thoughts during this time than this year even though we did more rituals.  I don’t know if anyone understands me what I am talking about and that is OK.

I guess the rituals still don’t make much sense to me yet and they somehow are not connected with my spiritual thoughts, there is a disconnect.
