Last night we had a 1st seder at my house.  I wanted it to be a small family event with focus on learning more about the holiday.  I was pleasantly surprised that Mishka knew a lot about this holiday and about the Jewish people.  His religious school is teaching him something.  So, after work I run home to cook while Boris picked up kids and did some shopping.

Last week was super eventful at home and at work.  My sister came from CA for a wedding; my cousin-in-law (very good friend of my sister) got married on Thursday night.  It was a very beautiful wedding that she managed to plan in 1.5 week!!!   The wedding started after 8pm because of the post and we left after midnight.  We also got invited to some after wedding party next Wednesday night at Boris’ relatives house.

A day before that, I had a rehearsal at the theatre after work.  I canceled my ballet class on Thursday because I had to get ready for the wedding.  Thursday, was actually super crazy day starting from the early morning until the wedding in the evening.

On Friday, In the morning I drove Yulya over my parents house and went to the weekly parsha class and then had to go to work for a meeting.  I was like a zombie at that meeting.  When I got home, I wanted to get some sleep but instead started cleaning and cooking and in the evening had guests over.

At work, I went to develop relationships with two different agencies YouthLink in Minneapolis and Hopkins Adult Basic Education center in the Eisenhower Community Center.  I will be working in Hopkins site a few times a month.  I will see individual clients or do workshops.   Also, had number of meetings at work.

This week has been filled with more outside of my usual life activities then I am ready to handle and I got a little overwhelmed.  Today, I just wanted to rest and do nothing.  I drove Mishka to soccer, then my parents asked me to bring him over.  My parents took Mishka and Liza to the Mall of America and in the evening brought both of them over, so Liza is staying overnight here.

My best friend invited us to go out with her to celebrate her anniversary of living in USA but I felt that it is too much plus we just got kids back on Friday night from my parents.  I don’t want to overwhelm my parents too all the time.  I felt very bad about refusing this invitation.  We already had to move her invitation from last week because of Masha’s unexpected wedding and party for the bride to be.   I hope we will be able to do something together very soon.

Tomorrow is Purim and we are invited to at least 5 parties.  In addition to Purim, my parents want to go out for brunch to celebrate their 40th wedding anniversary while Yulya with Liza are still here.  So, I am overwhelmed just thinking about our plan for tomorrow.  In the morning we will go to the Synagogue with Mishka then brunch and then we need to coordinate with Masha where she will be at the Purim party so we could actually meet her husband in person.

PS.  As I am typing this it started raining outside pretty hard.  I am afraid that kids (all 3 of them Liza, Misha and Michelle will wake up and be scared).  I hope they are sleeping tight and don't even hear it!!!!

I  had an interesting weekend even though had only one plan for Saturday night -- girls’ night out/birthday party of my friend and one plan for Sunday -- Super bowl party.  We started on Friday with totally unplanned dinner party for both of our parents plus my parents’ best friends.  After dinner (late dinner) and desert and some crosswords, we watched movie The tourist.   I enjoyed it.  It was light action, love story with beautiful actors in beautiful Venice.

On Saturday, I was hoping just to get some rest and go out in the evening.  So, I slept until 11am while Boris with Michelle took Mishka to the soccer.  I think I would have slept more but as usually kids woke me up.   Then Alina called and invited us to the Fire & Ice Festival on the Parker’s lake.  I couldn’t figure out what to do about that festival.  I wanted Mishka to go but I hate being cold and I didn’t want Michelle to go because that would be just a painful experience dragging her on the ice for a few hours in cold.  So, we figured out the best way out.  There was a problem with parking, so Boris with Michelle dropped us off at the Parkers lake and went shopping while Mishka and I enjoyed ice skating and the junk food, and all of the other events at the festival.  They had horse hay rides, recycle bin contest, crazy hat contest, dog Frisbee, dogrides, hockey, smorese, open fire to warm up and the whole lake of ice.

The longer we stayed, the more people were coming and more events were happening.  It was however very cold and windy.  Mishka and I put our skates on and quickly checked everything out, found our friends and continued skating.  Here is one video that I made when we just came.

Boris picked us up after shopping and it was about 5:30pm.  We had to go but they were supposed to have fireworks in an hour.  It was generally a very fun event and I think we would go there next year if wouldn't forget about it.

On Thanksgiving Boris made smoked fish on the grill/smoker outside and it turned out to be very delicious.  So, he decided to find a reason to call all of our friends over the next weekend.  So, he did.  He announced it as a celebration of his return to the big sport  after surgery and since it was Hanukah, we also lit candles when everyone came over and I made latkes and of course a lot of other food.  We were cooking all day long.  Michelle didn't like that and she was extremely cranky and did a lot of little troubles adding more work to my already busy day.

I have been on the roll cooking this weekend.  I cooked on Friday and then on Saturday night after sunset baked challah bread.  On Sunday, it was Michael’s turn to bring challah snack to his religious school class at the Synagogue.  Since I started late, I finished baking after midnight.  Michael and Michelle both were helping me braid challahs.  The house smelled heavenly!!!

On Sunday, I continued to cook.  I had a lot of vegetables that would go bad if I don’t make anything before weekend was over, so I made gazpacho, barley and mushroom soup, salad Oliv’e and cabbage pie.  It took me only 2 hours to finish cooking.

In the evening we had guests.  We ate and then went trick or treating in our neighborhood.  Michelle enjoyed walking around with her bucket and collecting candy for the first time in her life.  Some houses were scary-fun decorated and she was reluctant to visit some but was brave if I would carry her.  She even laughed at some scary things that she was scared at first.  It was great to see our neighbors having fun!

After we went back home we enjoyed tea with sweets.  The company was wonderful!  Michelle enjoyed playing with the girl who is just a little bit older then her.  Michael enjoyed opening the door and giving candy to other kids.  We enjoyed tea and conversation.

Talking about conversations…  Lately, at home I can’t have any conversation that my full attention goes into it.  I constantly have to keep an eye on the kids while I am talking or doing anything.  I have noticed that I have not finished so many stories because I would need to stop and run after Michelle who is trying to go upstairs by herself or stop Michael from making Michelle cry, or they would interrupt me with questions or their behavior.  It is kind of annoying.  It calls for the desire to have girls (or adults only) night out when we can talk and not be interrupted.

What a weekend!  Yulya, Grisha, Jacob and Liza came on Friday and stayed at our place.  They were first official guests from out of town in our house.  We had plenty of room for everyone and I really enjoyed the company.  Finally we bought a hide-a-bed sofa for the guests and now need to rearrange our office, turn it into office/guest room.  I was just worried that my guests wouldn’t go hungry.  I hope they didn’t.
