Went to the conference, met governor Mark Dayton who gave very touching speech in support of social services in MN.  Met actress Victoria Rowell and heard her touching life story.

Got back to the office, caught up on e-mails, voice mails, met w/ a lot of interesting clients, listened to a homeless, very talented poet/artist recite her 3 very beautiful and deep poems just for me.

After work I taught a ballet class where I tried a choreography for the play.  The idea worked very well plus girls gave me further ideas.

After ballet class we had a family dinner, did homework with Mishka,  spent time with my kids, was on the phone w/ my friends almost all day long.  It was like never before everyone calling today.

We are going to Mexico with kids and our friends, just bought a package to Mexico!!!

I am a little bit overwhelmed and need to get some rest now…

Last week was super eventful at home and at work.  My sister came from CA for a wedding; my cousin-in-law (very good friend of my sister) got married on Thursday night.  It was a very beautiful wedding that she managed to plan in 1.5 week!!!   The wedding started after 8pm because of the post and we left after midnight.  We also got invited to some after wedding party next Wednesday night at Boris’ relatives house.

A day before that, I had a rehearsal at the theatre after work.  I canceled my ballet class on Thursday because I had to get ready for the wedding.  Thursday, was actually super crazy day starting from the early morning until the wedding in the evening.

On Friday, In the morning I drove Yulya over my parents house and went to the weekly parsha class and then had to go to work for a meeting.  I was like a zombie at that meeting.  When I got home, I wanted to get some sleep but instead started cleaning and cooking and in the evening had guests over.

At work, I went to develop relationships with two different agencies YouthLink in Minneapolis and Hopkins Adult Basic Education center in the Eisenhower Community Center.  I will be working in Hopkins site a few times a month.  I will see individual clients or do workshops.   Also, had number of meetings at work.

This week has been filled with more outside of my usual life activities then I am ready to handle and I got a little overwhelmed.  Today, I just wanted to rest and do nothing.  I drove Mishka to soccer, then my parents asked me to bring him over.  My parents took Mishka and Liza to the Mall of America and in the evening brought both of them over, so Liza is staying overnight here.

My best friend invited us to go out with her to celebrate her anniversary of living in USA but I felt that it is too much plus we just got kids back on Friday night from my parents.  I don’t want to overwhelm my parents too all the time.  I felt very bad about refusing this invitation.  We already had to move her invitation from last week because of Masha’s unexpected wedding and party for the bride to be.   I hope we will be able to do something together very soon.

Tomorrow is Purim and we are invited to at least 5 parties.  In addition to Purim, my parents want to go out for brunch to celebrate their 40th wedding anniversary while Yulya with Liza are still here.  So, I am overwhelmed just thinking about our plan for tomorrow.  In the morning we will go to the Synagogue with Mishka then brunch and then we need to coordinate with Masha where she will be at the Purim party so we could actually meet her husband in person.

PS.  As I am typing this it started raining outside pretty hard.  I am afraid that kids (all 3 of them Liza, Misha and Michelle will wake up and be scared).  I hope they are sleeping tight and don't even hear it!!!!

I had a wonderful day communicating with my friends.  In the morning I called my friend in Germany then my friend in Kiev and talked to several friends here.

Then I took kids and my friend with her son to the Ukrainian Heritage Festival in Minneapolis.  The weather was great!   There was music, dancing, singing, food, games for kids and a lot of people.  I was surprised that it was very inexpensive unlike all other festivals that I have been to before.

It was interesting to listen to real Ukrainian language and even speak some myself.  I saw one woman there that looked just like my theatre director from Kiev 20 years ago.  I asked her if it was her but it wasn’t.  However, we found that she also finished same university as that woman did.  I met some people that I know there.  Michael enjoyed playing games and even though he didn’t always make on target, they still let him get a prize.  They gave ice-cream for free.

Michelle stayed in the stroller for a long time but then of course got tired and wanted to run around.  I really liked that event and would love to come back next year.

In the afternoon when we came home, unexpectedly we had a full house of guests and I fed them dinner that I cooked on the spot.  I really enjoyed being surrounded by friends!

After dinner we went for a walk in our neighborhood with our friends and kids.  It was gorgeous evening but kind of cool.  The day ended with tea and Michelle's pearls that I will write about separately.

On Saturday, I had to wake up earlier then usually to go over my parents.  They had an appointment with a woman that would talk about final arrangements insurance.  Not a very pleasant topic but I guess an important one for people my parents’ age.  I think it is too early but they choose to do it now.

We spent several hours with this woman and they signed up for that life insurance for the final arrangements.  We will have to meet with this woman again to see if my parents need any other programs.  She also gave them information about making the will.  I am learning a lot of stuff with these representatives.  They convince people pretty well that they need a lot of insurances when they retire. So, I am trying to sort it out and explain to my parents.

In the evening, we took kids over my in-laws and went to the Solera restaurant to celebrate my friend’s birthday.  It was only 3 couples and we had great time.  I wished that evening would continue but we had to pick up kids and go to bed.

On Sunday I was hanging out with kids during the day while Boris was playing soccer and in the evening went to see Jawaahir Dance Company show at the Ritz Theater with my friend.  I enjoyed the time that I spent with my friend and I loved the show!

I was very happy to see my friends performing and was somewhat sad that I was not in the show myself.  However, it actually made me decide that I need to start taking classes again and actually start teaching dance.  Jenny even agreed on helping me learn how to teach since she has been teaching for a while now.

The show was as always amazing.  Dancers were absolutely beautiful – they danced with joy very gracefully.  The colors of the costumes, the sparkles the shapes the light the MUSIC!  Everything looked wonderful.  As I was watching them dance, I couldn’t hold myself but dance with them in my chair.

Cassandra and the guest artist were absolutely wonderful!  I was only surprised that Cassandra appeared only once on the stage.  Also, this show was simple in terms of use of unique props as it has been before.  Even though I was waiting for something interesting and unusual as always, I truly enjoyed the simplicity of just dancing and of pure choreography accompanied with wonderful live music and singing.  They used light features with some background colors and pictures but nowadays it is usual prop used pretty much everywhere.

This was my first time seeing Jawaahir perform at the Ritz.  It is very similar to the Southern Theater only here dancers perform on the elevated stage unlike at the southern.  I thought it added more class to the show.

I was energized and inspired by this show!

Harmony Theatre & School

MN Fringe festival presented hundreds of shows this year as usually.  This year I managed to see two shows by Harmony Theatre Company and School and by Maddak Productions.

Harmony Theatre Company and School presented The Little Prince story by Antoine de Saint-Exupery.  It is a wonderful story that many people love.  If you have not read it, please read the story!  It is a fairytale for adults.  The play was wonderful considering that majority of the cast consisted of children.

Many parts of the play deeply touched me.  It made me laugh and even cry at some moments.  I just wished that some kids had microphones because I couldn’t hear what they were saying.  Since I read the story recently, I understood the context but for people who did not know the story it was disappointing.  Especially the snake character, he had an awesome costume with yellow helmet.  The helmet made the sound even more buffered.

Michael (7) did not understand the play but enjoyed seeing the actors.  He knew almost everyone in the cast and was excited to tell me their names.  I read the story to him a few weeks before the show and he did not understand it and thought that it was very boring.  So, yes, it is a fairytale for adults, since it raises a lot of adult issues.  Michael went to see Harmony Theatre show last year, while they presented radio drama, he said that he liked that show better then this one.

Maddak Productions presented Finding a Fit.  I went to see this show because my friend’s client was in it and it sounded like a fun show to see.  There were only 4 actresses with very good voices and the theater was very small.  That was my first time in that theatre space -- Theatre in the Round.  It was perfect for this performance.  It was a comedy musical about women’s issue of finding clothes to wear every morning and for every occasion.  As a woman I could relate to almost all the scenes.

I went to see both shows with my girlfriend.  The show by Harmony Theatre Company and School we took our kids with and the show by Maddak Productions it was just two of us – girls’ night out.

Next year, I will try to see more shows.

I am pretty tired and should be going to sleep instead of being on the computer.  I need to keep my laptop away from my bed!!!!

I was hoping to get some sleep in the morning, since Saturdays are my sleep-in days but kids and Boris came and woke me up at 10am.  I did not want to go downstairs because I knew that there is a total mess on the kitchen.
